Hack my Deathstar abused & crippled W760a

So I just recently bought a unsubsidized Sony Ericsson W760a, but it's branded by the Deathstar (picture the shape)....

This poor phone is filled with "trialware", and crippled in the dumbest places....

Anyways, time to put this puppy back to the right way:

http://sharkypr.net/node/320/

Additionally, using A2Uploader I temporarily fixed the carrier's limit on ringtone size ( < 300,000 ) by setting customize_upgrade.xml to the following:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<customization>
<registry>
<databrowser>
<settings reg-path="/apps/databrowser">
<ringtone-restriction>/ringtone-restriction>
<ringtone-restriction-size>3000000</ringtone-restriction-size>
</settings>
</databrowser>
</registry>
</customization>

MythWeb Search fatal error: Allowed memory size of 33554432 bytes exhausted

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 33554432 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 72 bytes) /var/www/localhost/htdocs/mythweb/modules/tv/search.php

Check my php.ini settings, all set to 128M. So why does it complain about 32M ? Found the culprit in /var/www/localhost/htdocs/mythweb/.htaccess :

php_value memory_limit 32M

Changed to 64M and the search works again.

Opera Mobile 9.5 beta notification bug fixed - WMExperts

Opera Mobile 9.5 beta notification bug fixed - WMExperts:
"There is a very simple workaround for the keyboard issue. Open a registry editor and go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT CLSID. Find the CLSID for the default keyboard SIP. Set 'IsSIPInputMethod' to 0. Opera will no longer set it to the default SIP. The only downside is now you can t switch back to the default SIP."

In my iPAQ 914c's case, it I found several :
{42429667-ae04-11d0-a4f8-00aa00a749b9}/IsSIPInputMethod
{42429690-ae04-11d0-a4f8-00aa00a749b9}/

From a mysql prompt, try "REPAIR TABLE mythlog", when using the mythconverg db of course.

Hotswap Cages suck

Damn it, I can't find one that has a good enough airflow. ICY-DOCK sucks, the air hole for 4 drives is the size of a nickel, and has a circuit board in front of it!

New phone, and QVGA/VGA comparison on PPC

It's coming down to the Sony Ericsson X1 and the i-mate Ultimate 9502.

QVGA versus VGA

Battle of the Pocket Players (PPC)

Product Category: Media PlayersManufacturers: Conduits Technologies and Pocket MindWhere to Buy: Pocket Player ; Pocket Music (old version?) from MobiHand (affiliate)Price: Pocket Player = $19.95 USD; Pocket Music = Free (MP3 + Winamp only), $19.95 USD for Bundle, which includes WMA and other features.Specifications: Both run on Windows Mobile 5 or 6. Pocket Player requires approximately 3MB of memory, while Pocket Music needs 2.9MB.Pros (for Pocket Player):
Able to handle most music and video media formats;
Finger and gesture-friendly interface for listing and selection of items.Pros (for Pocket Music):
Supports the widest variety of audio formats, including audio books, streaming audio, and playlists;
Standard Winamp skins available for look and feel;
Finger-friendly interface with direct access to major features.Cons: (for Pocket Player)
Limited number of skins available;
Many controls on the player itself are not 'big finger friendly';
Creates playlists in your 'My Documents' folder automatically;
Some features are difficult to get at.Cons: (for Pocket Music)
Seems to lock out all externally-defined hardware button functions while it is running;
Default Winamp skin has very small controls;
Equalizer degrades overall sound performance.Summary:The field of media players for the Windows Mobile is (thankfully) a rather crowded one, with numerous applications available beyond the Windows Media Player provided with the operating system. Two of the more popular options – Conduits' Pocket Player and Pocket Mind's Pocket Music have recently released new versions, so now seemed a good time for a head-to-head comparison of their features and capabilities. Is one better than the other? As all good consultants say, “It depends...”Read on for the full review!

It's 2008 and people still don't know what they are buying with regard to HDTV

I'm traveling today and sitting in one of the lounges, and I'm here listening to a 40-something gentleman talking to hist colleagues or friends, and he says "Couple of years ago I bought a plasma, and recently I got a new TV, it's a, a, a HDTV." One friend asks "What type?" The responds is, of course, "I don't know." He went on to say "The technology in the last few years has really, you know, gotten better." Well said, Mr. Consumer. You have no idea what you've bought. You heard your neighbor got a new HDTV, and his neighbor got one, and you just had to keep up with the Jones'.

I don't understand why people buy shit they know nothing about? Why fucking buy it if you're not going to take an interest in it? I mean, I'm sure this guy at least reads his dinner menu before he orders. Maybe not, maybe he just asks someone else what he would like. I hope he's continually served brussels sprouts. I hate dumb consumers: it leads to dumb products.

Replacement Remote

Been using a Harmony SST-659 for years, and other than the lack of organizing activities, it's been pretty nice. Logitech bought the company a while back, and has released some new models. Now we have a nice new one coming out: Harmony One. The Harmony One is expected to be available in the U.S. and Europe beginning in February for a suggested retail price of $249.99 (U.S.).
